  • Deader Than Disco -- Averted. While modern comedians frequently trash-talk the series (in particular, Ricky Gervais has gone on record as saying that this series showcases everything wrong with the classic Britcom format), it still remains very fondly remembered by most people.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Womanizing René is usually appalled whenever he sees that Lt. Gruber is hitting on him. In the mid 80's Gorden Kaye admitted that he is, in fact, homosexual.
  • Ho Yay: Gruber towards René.
  • Weird Al Effect -- the series became far more popular than Secret Army, and the original has been largely forgotten.
  • The Woobie -- Von Smallhausen and Lt. Gruber despite them being Nazis too.
